Endocrinologist and Telemedicine

Sometimes, bringing kids to the doctor’s office can be a trying experience, and our team at Endocrine Kids knows this. That is why we are proud to offer our new telemedicine service to two groups of patients – existing diabetic patients and patients who are part of our HAND Pathway.

With this new offering, a simple doctor's appointment to ensure a diabetic child is doing well can be done via teleconferencing. Or a quick dietary assessment via videoconference can replace an in-office visit. When it is time for the appointment, the parent and child can videoconference with Dr. Bishop or our nurse practitioner, Mary Ann – reducing the frequency of in-person medical visits.

What Is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is when a health care provider and patient meet via two-way voice and video communication over the internet. It began with patients who did not have local access to healthcare and needed an easier way to communicate with their doctor. Telemedicine offered a way for patients to have their health issues addressed regardless of where they lived or what circumstances prevented them from getting medical care.

Now, telemedicine simply involves logging in to a web-based application and having a video chat with Dr. Bishop or Maryann Cherenzia, NP. Perhaps your child just needs a quick checkup; a telemedicine appointment can save busy parents a lot of time.

Who Can Benefit from Telemedicine Visits?

Anyone can benefit from telemedicine, especially those who live far away from Endocrine Kids or those who have other extenuating circumstances. This new service, with insurance approval, will be offered alternating with in-office visits.

If a parent has a special-needs child and getting them to the doctor takes quite a bit of effort, this offering can fulfill a true need. For homebound patients or those who have anxiety issues, telemedicine offers the opportunity to have a face-to-face visit with their doctor or nurse practitioner with no travel involved.

When Are the Telemedicine Appointments at Endocrine Kids?

To schedule a telemedicine appointment, just call our office at (248) 347-3344 or request an appointment on line. Telemedicine appointments for diabetic patients are offered on tuesday afternoon.

Are Telemedicine Appointments Shorter than In-Person Visits?

No, though they will certainly seem faster without all that travel time! And telemedicine visits eliminate the costs of extra time and travel.

How Can I Sign Up?

If you are an existing diabetic or HAND Pathway patient in our practice, Endocrine Kids can sign you up for telemedicine. Just let us know that you are interested and we will set you up for a telemedicine appointment, insurance permitting.
